11. "And the vision of all this has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.” 12 And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot read.”
13 . And the Lord said:
“Because this people draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
14. therefore, behold, I will again
do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder;
and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”
15. Ah, you who hide deep from the LORD your counsel,
whose deeds are in the dark,
and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?”
16. You turn things upside down!
Shall the potter be regarded as the clay,
that the thing made should say of its maker,
“He did not make me”;
or the thing formed say of him who formed it,
“He has no understanding”?" Isaiah 29:11-16
In a world that is constantly changing, it’s fascinating to consider how rapid and transformative these changes can be. Did you know that only 66 years passed between the Wright brothers' first flight and the moon landing? Similarly, 90% of the world’s data has been generated in just the past few years, and in the same century, the world’s population more than tripled. These facts highlight the rapid pace of change in our world, but amidst all this, our Scripture from Isaiah 29:11-16 reminds us of a fundamental truth: God does not change.
Isaiah speaks of a people who honor God with their lips while their hearts are far from Him, leading to a loss of spiritual understanding. This passage underscores the importance of seeking God earnestly. Just as neglecting cursive writing leads to forgetting how to write it, ignoring God’s Word results in spiritual deprivation. The wisdom of the world may perish, but God’s wisdom remains constant and unchanging. This is a powerful reminder that while human understanding may falter, God’s truth endures.
It is important to remember that while people change, God does not. Human opinions, behaviors, and relationships can shift dramatically over time, but God’s nature and attributes remain steadfast. Revelation 1:7-8 and Psalm 102:23-28 emphasize God's eternal nature, reinforcing that He is the Alpha and Omega, unchanging through generations. This constancy provides a firm foundation, as illustrated in Luke 6:46-48, where building on God, the Rock, ensures stability amidst life’s changes.
The constancy of God’s love stands in stark contrast to the fluctuating nature of human affections. James 1:16-18 and Romans 5:8 highlight that every good gift comes from God, who does not change like shifting shadows. Even when humanity faltered, God's love remained unwavering, exemplified through Christ’s sacrifice. This enduring love assures us that, regardless of societal changes or personal failings, God's affection for us is eternal and steadfast. So, as we navigate a rapidly changing world, we can trust in the unchanging nature of God, finding stability and security in His eternal Word and love.
